Topics in Environmental Pollution – a new publishing collaboration between SETAC and Wiley-Blackwell

SETAC and Wiley-Blackwell are seeking authors for an exciting and innovative book series that will exploit the opportunities offered by electronic publishing. We believe that this new endeavour will offer significant benefits to both authors and readers; in particular:

* Each volume will be relatively short (averaging about 75 pages).
* The time from submission of manuscript to publication will be reduced from the 9 months typical of printed books to around 6 months.
* There will be no limitation on the use of colour.
* Authors may make use of enhanced features such as video clips, audio links, and hyperlinking.
* Electronic delivery will permit frequent updating of material where authors feel this is necessary.*  Books will be peer reviewed and will be submitted to the Thomson-Reuters Book Citation Index.
* Books will be priced at a level suitable for individual purchase.*  There will be a print-on-demand option for customers who wish to purchase hard-copy.

The partnership between SETAC and Wiley-Blackwell, our global reach, and our commitment to quality will ensure that authors contributing to the series have an opportunity to make significant and lasting contributions to this critical area of science.

Scientific Rationale

The huge and ever-growing range of pollutants that are of environmental concern, their accelerating ubiquity, coupled with rapid advances in the science and technology of monitoring, analysis and remediation mean that environmental scientists may at times find it hard to keep up with advances in areas outside their immediate sphere of specialisation. This difficulty is compounded by the multidisciplinary nature of pollution science, encompassing as it does such diverse areas as physiology, ecotoxicology, chemistry, hydrology, and atmospheric science, to name but a few.
This Series is designed to address these difficulties by providing relatively short, up-to-date and authoritative reviews. To do so, authors will be encouraged to reach out beyond their immediate speciality to the wider environmental science community and to regularly update their contributions in the light of new developments.

Volumes in the Topics in Environmental Pollution series will be written by leading international figures, and will typically be 50-120 pages (20,000 to 60,000 words) in length – longer than a typical review article, but shorter than a normal book. Volumes in the series will deal with new and emerging issues or more specifically with new and emerging pollutants. Authors will be given considerable latitude in terms of approach, but will be encouraged to deal primarily with the geochemistry/chemistry of pollutants (or families of pollutants); their sources, transport and fate; their ecotoxicology; and in particular, their mitigation, remediation, and management.
In addition to volumes dealing with particular pollutants, there will also be reviews of advances in more general topical and emerging issues such as ocean acidification, acid mine waste, bioremediation, urban air quality monitoring, radioactive waste disposal, and bioaccumulation, among others.


It is anticipated that there will be a wide readership, including advanced students and researchers in geochemistry, environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology and related areas worldwide, as well as practising environmental scientists involved in monitoring and remediation, waste management, environmental impact assessment, and similar fields.
